In this poetic performance, the chained dictionary pages were transformed into charchoal-like ashes. In this metaphor, permanent (printed) words were burnt into impermanence. In addition, the charcoal sticks left a permanent trace of the manually spoken words (in ASL) on the plane. It is a curious, cyclical chain of permanence and impermanence of language and medium.
